Talmud > Ketzos Hachoshen
Every few centuries a work emerges that creates a certain discontinuity in the Torah world and enduringly redefines its landscape for the future. The Ketzos Hachoshen is one such work. In many ways it redefined the way we learn gemorra.
Written by Reb Aryeh Leib Heller, in the mid 18th century, the Ketzos set the tone for the serious learning of all talmudic passages dealing with Mammonos (commercial maters). Written as a peirush on the Choshen Mishpat (section of the Shulchan Aruch dealing with matters of legal process, ownership, commercial transactions, property law, monetary matters etc.) it covers seder Nezikkin but touches on passages throughout the Talmud. He wrote a similar work for Even Ha'Ezer (section of Shulchan Aruch dealing with marriage and divorce) called Avnei Millu'im.
In this series, Rabbi Lapin uses the Ketzos or Avnei Milluim as a springboard for getting to the very essence of various classical sugiyos in Shas. At the same time, Rabbi Lapin teaches an approach to how to learn the Ketzos and use it in Gemorra learning.
As always with Rabbi Lapin's shiurim, each session not only deeply clarifies the talmudic and halachik issues involved, but also provides you with some profound take-home value for day-to-day living.
