Bringing the Daf to Life: vitalizing your appreciation of Gemarrah and learning how to bring it's wisdom into the center-stage of your life.
This program addresses these needs. Each week (my travel schedule permitting) I give a shiur in which I select one sugia from the previous week's Daf Yomi. I teach that sugia with some degree of depth both in terms of Lomdus (technical learning, deduction, extrapolation and other forms of Talmudic logic) drawing on classical Rishonim and Achronim, and in terms of current relevance, philosophy and Musar. In Los Angeles I teach on Wednesday evenings, and in Johannesburg on Monday evenings. This series is not intended exclusively for Learners of Daf Yomi. Each shiur stands alone and is easily understandable by people who, while they have Gemarrah experience, are not learning the Daf Yomi. I hope the series enriches your learning of Gemarrah.
The Daf Yomi program has become a tidal wave of global Torah learning. It offers so many exhilarating experiences as you travel through galaxies of Torah ideas each day. But many people miss some of the depth and the day to day relevance of the pages they are learning. There are also many people who cannot dedicate the daily time to a Daf Yomi program but would like get some of that experience of variety and span of learning and knowledge.
